Nilagama Estate
Nilagama Estate is the garden mark for Pelmadulla Estate which is located between the towns of Pelmadulla and Kahawatte in the Ratnapura District. This area is reputed for its vast deposits of gem stones, including blue sapphire, and is believed that the Pelmadulla Estate itself has plenty of untapped resources. The elevation of the estate is between 183 – 244 metres above sea level, with the tea factory located at 189 metres. The estate was established in 1905 with rubber as its main crop before tea was introduced in 1924.
